Exams for Adults
Regular dental exams are an important part of preventative health care. During your exam, either Dr. Tinkle or one of our dental hygienists — Jessica or Bridget — will clean your teeth, identify any gum inflammation or bone loss and evaluate your risk of developing tooth decay and other oral health problems. They'll also check your face, mouth and neck for any abnormalities. Your exam may also include dental X-rays or other diagnostic procedures such as an oral cancer screening.
During your exam, Dr. Tinkle, Jessica or Bridget will discuss your diet and oral hygiene habits. Other topics you might discuss could include:
- Proper brushing and flossing techniques
- Any medications you're taking
- Use of tobacco products
- Consequences of tooth loss
- Benefits of crowns, fixed bridges or dental implants
- Use of dentures
- Cosmetic procedures
Dr. Tinkle and our hygienists are more than happy to discuss all your options with you and help you come up with an oral health plan that suits your needs.
Exams for Children and Adolescents
During these exams, Dr. Tinkle or one of our hygienists will likely discuss your child's diet and oral hygiene habits. They'll demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques to make sure he or she is getting the most out of their at-home cleanings. Other topics for discussion might include preventing oral injuries and the health risks involved with tobacco, substance abuse and oral piercings.
