If you have just ended up with a chipped tooth, then it can feel a bit worrying. This scenario can happen in a few different ways, such as biting into hard food or through an accidental fall. While you may be stressed, there are things you should do to help keep your oral health strong. Keep reading to learn what you should do if you chipped a tooth and how your emergency dentist<\/a> can fix it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Take Charge of the Situation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Depending on the severity of the situation, you may experience some bleeding from the area nearby. It\u2019s important to get it under control by applying pressure to it with a clean towel or gauze. However, be sure not to scrub or irritate the area. If the bleeding seems to be excessive or persistent, then you should visit a local emergency room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After you get it to stop, rinsing your mouth with warm salt water can be helpful. It can clear away any debris while cleaning out bacteria and reducing inflammation. You may experience some discomfort, so you can take over-the-counter medication to give you some relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You should also avoid chewing with the chipped tooth and steer clear of hard or chewy foods. Doing so can worsen the damage! If you feel that there is a sharp edge, then you can cover it with dental wax or sugar-free gum; that way, it doesn’t irritate your gums or tongue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless of whether it\u2019s a small break or a more severe one, you should call your dentist right away. Even if you weren\u2019t in any pain, the integrity of your tooth may now be a bit weakened. When you don\u2019t get the care you need, it’s possible for it to worsen or get infected, which can cause a bigger headache in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it\u2019s time for your visit, your dentist will take a look at your affected tooth. If it were just a minor chip, then they may recommend dental bonding. They will take composite resin and sculpt it against the damage to fill it in. Veneers may be another option to consider, as they can last longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Severe chips may call for a restorative treatment instead. For instance, a CEREC dental crown<\/a> can be helpful as it gives you back both appearance and function on the same visit. There are some rare instances where a root canal or extraction is necessary, but your dentist will find out what’s best for you and your smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
